01 — Overview

About the project

A complete travel guide to Syria in Arabic and English: landmarks, food and events across all 14 governorates, with an interactive map, voice-guided directions, public transport lines with a trip planner, and reviews and contributions from users.

02 — The problem

What the client needed

Travel information inside Syria is scattered: landmarks and restaurants live in scattered posts, no map documents the microbus (servees) and bus lines, and the practical side — entering the country, SIM cards, money and exchange — is spread across groups and sites. A visitor, even a Syrian coming home, has no single source to rely on.

03 — The solution

How we built it

We built the product end to end: a React Native app for iOS and Android, Arabic first (RTL) with English, light and dark themes and offline access to what it has cached; MapLibre maps from OpenStreetMap data served by our backend, turn-by-turn directions with spoken guidance, and a public transport directory with a trip planner that guides you until you get off; landmarks with photos and history from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, credited on every place. Behind it, a Node.js backend and an admin dashboard that manages the content and moderates suggestions, reviews, photos and reports before they go live.
